Five Tips for a Great Party

birthday party magic girlHaving been a performer, guest, and host at many parties, here are a few things that I’ve noticed the most successful events have in common:

  1. Be flexible. Guests may arrive late or have to leave early, so stay flexible and plan the important stuff for the middle of your time together.
  2. Eat and drink with your guests. Not only will it be more fun for you, but you’ll be sure that all the necessary silverware, napkins and plates made their way to the food area.
  3. Plan an activity. Whether it be a movie, games, or a magic show *ahem*, having an activity ensures that your guests (especially little ones) don’t get bored.
  4. Choose a theme. Having a theme will actually make decisions easier when choosing food, party supplies, invitations, etc.  Party stores are great for this, or be creative on your own!
  5. Giveaways. To make a lasting impression, give your guests something small as they’re leaving.  The invitation built excitement, the actual event was exciting, and now they’ll remember the excitement longer with a memento.

Parlor Magic for Peers

Had a really fun show a few nights ago, hosted in a Rockville living room.  Why was it blog-worthy?

It was exactly the sort of show I love doing, entertaining a fun group in their late 20’s / early 30’s with some sophisticated magic.  They found me via TimelessDeception.com, which is exactly the kind of event that site showcases.  I was able to share some sophisticated magic over the course of an hour, and never once did a party guest spill their juice box.

I’m fortunate to be able to share magic with children, adults, and audiences of both.  Each one brings its own unique challenges, which makes it so much fun for me.
